    What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger Point Therapy is a massage technique that helps relieve the sufferer from (referred) pain and ease the trigger point causing it. A trigger point is when a fascicle gets “stuck” to another, preventing movement and causing pain. Your muscles are built very much like an orange having tiny “pockets” of muscle tissue that glide against each other to create movement in the entire muscle. Sometime they get stuck together and there are many different reasons why that happens.

What can I expect in my Trigger Point Therapy session?

Trigger Point Therapy finds painful points and presses with sustained pressure while also moving in small circles. As this is going on your therapist will ask you for feedback, such as, has pain gone down and where do you feel it now. This and more will be explained to you at your appointment, this massage should not hurt! Please let your therapist know if it is painful, although it will be a little uncomfortable it is not painful. This massage is often combined with Myofascial Release for a more relaxing and therapeutic treatment.

What are the benefits of Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger Points occur in various areas of the body referring pain to other areas such as headaches being trigger points in the neck and shoulders. By dissolving these points it allows us to get to the root cause and effectivly work your trigger points and knots so you can continue living. Other examples of pathologies that have seen relief are:

    • Chronic pain
    • Rotator Cuff Issues
    • Sciatica
    • Plantar Fasciitis
    • Carpal Tunnel
    • TMJ
    • and more

While trigger point therapy isn’t always used on it’s own it does make for a great short session modality. This can be done in as little as a 30 minute session when you need results in a particular area. I often use this modality when working on someone who may not return and needs results fast. People love it and best of all, when done correctly, it doesn’t hurt or leave you feeling drained!
