5 home office tools you need to reduce pain.
Setting up a home office was new to many people in 2020 and since then pain has become a new normal for those home office folks. That’s why Tranquil Therapy brought some of their favorite tools to reduce pain while working at a computer! Although there are lots of tools you can use these are a few that Ashley uses. It should also be noted that while these can help they are not a replacement for manual therapy and strength training. Both will help you more than any tool could and are highly recommended. So much so Ashley created a blog post about exercises you can do while on the computer. You can check that out here. We have included some affiliate links at the bottom in case you wanted to buy right away. These help us out a tiny bit so if you plan on buying any of these the links on this page will get us a few cents per purchase!
Let’s get started with Ashley’s picks for a better at home work set up!
1 Mouse
First things first, a mouse should be your first investment as a home office tool to reduce pain. Hear me out. By keeping your wrist in a prolonged pronation you are tightening up the forearm around the wrist and elbow. This can cause pain to the pronator muscles as well as the carpel tunnel. Keeping your wrist in a neutral position will keep you from overuse and repetitive stress injuries in the hand, wrist, and forearm. It can also keep you from leaning deeper into your computer as you shift your weight to one side in order to get comfortable. While this may not be the only cause of that, it is still a cause and I watch co-workers do it all the time.
2 Laptop Stand
The next home office tool you need to reduce pain is a laptop stand. Now this one is a bit more obvious. You want your computer monitor to be around eye level in order to avoid hunching over, looking down, etc. I listed two below that are the most popular in my co-working space. I have the adjustable stand that also hold my cell phone. This is because I usually have my phone out to type out messages or notes. Having it right next to my screen makes it easier to use and allows me to keep my phone on silent but still receive messages. If you are on the taller side consider using a raiser as well. This could be a wooden block or something made to raise a computer.
3- Keyboard
You guessed it, a keyboard. Not just any keyboard though, get one that suits your needs. I linked a few but there are various kinds that could be better for you. I like the ones above because they’re ergonomic but also have a built in wrist support! These will help you complete an at home laptop office set up!
This keyboard is split! Affordable keyboard and mouse combo
4 Back Support Pillow
Now as far as comfort goes the solutions above may take some time to get used to or even notice. A back support pillow however, will feel better instantly. I added a few above that work for office chairs but have more support in case you are still working with your dinning room chair. If you’re a client that has mentioned this to me then yes, I’m calling you out. You don’t need a special chair if the one you have is the right height. With the office tools above you can achieve a comfortable work space at your own dinning table. Without spending hundreds on a standing desk or fancy chair. These cushions will help you maintain posture throughout your work day. I still recommend you set your alarm every 2 hours to get up and move around. Maybe even try that workout video posted in the first paragraph of this post. I’ll relink it here.
5 Theracane
Last but not least is the Theracane! I actually wrote a whole post about it here. It’s my favorite tool and have one at every office! I won’t go into too much detail here but it will help you get those knots out that keep you from finishing your work. This tool has the best use for price ratio and it’s more expensive in 2022 than any other year. If you want to buy one at your next session let me know! It’s the only consistent product Tranquil Therapy has sold in our 13+ years.
I hope this “home office tools to reduce pain” blog has helped you. If i missed any must have tool please let me know!
